Good evening, Dr. Tian and friends and colleagues in China, and good morning, Minister Chen and friends and colleagues in Canada. Thank you all for attending this virtual MOU signing ceremony between Colleges and Institutes Canada and SSIDC.

田院长以及在中国的各位朋友，晚上好！陈公使以及在加拿大的各位朋友，早上好！感谢大家参加加拿大学院协会与思德库战略合作协议网上签约仪式。

Some of you may not know much about the organization I represent, so let me first give you a brief introduction.

Colleges and Institutes Canada, or CICan, is the national association of Canada’s publicly-supported colleges, institutes, cégeps and polytechnics. Our over 140 members serve 1.5 million learners in over 3,000 communities across Canada. The greatest strength of our members is that they offer nimble education and training programs that respond to labour market needs and integrate academic studies with real-world experience. Canadian colleges are all about applied learning and applied research.

可能有人对我所代表的这个机构还不太熟悉，所以我首先给大家简单介绍一下。加拿大应用技术与职业学院协会，英文简称CICan，是加拿大公立学院的全国性协会，有140多个会员院校，校园遍及加拿大全国3000多个社区。我们会员院校的最大优势是针对劳动力市场需求提供教育和培训，并将学习与实践相结合。应用性学习和应用性研究就是加拿大学院的最大特色。

We also work internationally. For more than 40 years, CICan has championed education, training, and innovation on a global scale by linking our members to partners around the world. Our flagship approach to international cooperation - called Education for Employment – supports partner countries to adopt an employment-focused approach to post-secondary education.

我们协会也积极开展国际合作。四十多年来，我们协助会员院校与其他国家的院校和机构对接，在全球范围内推动教育、培训和创新。我们最主要的国际合作业务叫做“就业导向教育”，通过这项业务，我们支持伙伴国发展以就业为导向的高等教育。

CICan and our members have a long history of engagement with China that dates back to the 1980s. We implemented several development assistance programs funded by the Canadian government in support of China’s economic transition and reform, and more recently CICan has hosted many delegations from China to share experiences and promote collaboration in vocational and professional education between our two countries.

CICan和我们的会员院校与中国的合作有很长历史，最早可追溯到上世纪80年代。我们实施了多个加拿大政府援助项目，支持中国的经济转型和改革。近年来我们接待了不少中国的高职代表团来加考察研修，努力促进两国在职业技术教育领域的合作与交流。

Today, I am very excited to form this new partnership with SSIDC (pronounced /sidik/) to work together in various areas related to elder care. In Canada, colleges and institutes play a critical role in training a wide range of professionals for the elder care sector, such as nurses, personal support workers, hearing instrument specialists, rehab technicians, recreation assistants, senior mental health workers—just to name a few. They work in a variety of settings including but not limited to hospitals, community-based health services, and continuing care and long-term care institutions. They are at the forefront of providing quality care and help older adults achieve healthy aging.

今天，我们与思德库建立这项新的伙伴关系，围绕养老服务的各个领域开展合作，对此我非常高兴。在加拿大，学院在各类养老服务人才的培养中发挥着关键作用，包括护士、护理员、助听器配戴师、复健治疗师、康乐治疗师、老年精神健康工作者等。他们在医院、社区和长期照护机构等多种环境下工作，为老人提供优质服务，帮助他们健康地变老。

Colleges and institutes are also leaders in applied research related to elder care. Their research areas range from technological innovation – such as using wearable technology, virtual reality and digital health tools to improve the health and quality of life of older adults – to policy solutions – such as building age-friendly health systems that promote integration and resource sharing across health care setting – and to clinical research that provides information and practical guidance to healthcare professionals and caregivers. These research projects help drive innovations that have a direct impact on the well-being of older adults and their families.

我们的会员院校也开展多种与养老服务相关的应用研究，从技术创新（如利用可穿戴技术、虚拟现实和数字工具来改善老人的健康和生活质量），到政策研究（如建立适老性医疗保健系统、推动医养机构之间的资源整合与共享），再到为医疗和养老专业人员提供指导的临床研究。这些研究项目推动了各方面创新，可对老人及其家人的福祉产生直接影响。

I know that China, like Canada, is also confronting tremendous challenges posed by an aging population, including a serious shortage of skilled care professionals. We are very pleased to have this opportunity to work with SSIDC (pronounced /sidik/), a national leader in elder care education and training, research, and standard development, to share our experience and contribute to the development of a strong elder care workforce in China. At the same time, we also look forward to learning from our Chinese colleagues through joint research, sharing of good practices, and other forms of collaboration.

我知道中国现在和加拿大一样，都面临着人口老化所带来的各种挑战，其中一项就是有技能的养老服务专业人员较为匮乏。思德库是中国养老人才教育培训、养老服务研究和标准制定等领域的领军机构，我们非常高兴有机会和思德库合作，分享加拿大在相关领域的经验，为中国养老人才的培养做贡献。我们也期待通过联合研究、良好实践分享和其他形式的合作向中国同行们学习。

Finally, I would like to thank the Canadian Embassy in Beijing for your help and support, without which this collaboration would have been impossible. In particular, I would like to thank Ambassador Barton for sending his congratulations for this event; I understand we will hear his recorded message shortly.

最后，我想对加拿大驻华使馆对这项合作提供的帮助表示衷心感谢。正是你们的大力支持才使这项合作成为可能。我特别要感谢鲍达民大使本人通过录像向我们与思德库的签约表示祝贺。

I am convinced that this partnership will lead to fruitful and impactful cooperation between our two organizations in the years ahead, and I look forward to meeting Dr. Tian and other colleagues in person, in Canada or China, in the not-too-distant future.

我相信，我们今天与思德库建立的伙伴关系将开启双方在未来数年富有成效和影响力的合作。我也期待着在不久的将来与田院长和其他同事见面，不管是在加拿大还是中国。
